In the spring of 1989 Three Barb Benson (a.k.a. Dennis Hiett) and his lovely wife Lady Benson (a.k.a. Janet Hiett), were visiting family in California. While there, they visited a Cowboy Action Shooting event called 'End Of Trail' .
This match was hosted by a club called SASS (Single Action Shooting Society). Overwhelmed by the camaraderie, fun spirit, and family type participation that it brought to the participants, as well as the spectators, Three Barb thought that this is something that would be great back East! Soon after arriving back home, he contacted some of his good friends and explained to them what he had witnessed out West.
Well, in no time at all, they were shooting Cowboy Action! From that first time of just a few cowpokes getting together, CASS, Inc. was soon born and has grown by leaps and bounds, right along with the sport of Cowboy Action Shooting.
Located in Morgan Co. in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, is the home of CASS, Inc., known as the Singing Hills Ranch. Nestled in amongst the Blue Ridge Mountains of WV., the Singing Hill Ranch host some of the most beautiful landscape that West Virginia has to offer!
"CASS, INC. RETAINS THE HONOR OF BEING KNOWN AS ONE OF THE FIRST COWBOY ACTION SHOOTINGTM CLUBS ON THE WHOLE EAST COAST AND THE FIRST TO BE ESTABLISHED IN WEST VIRGINIA."
As defined by the folks that created this shooting sport, SASSTM (Single Action Shooting SocietyTM), Cowboy Action ShootingTM is a multifaceted shooting sport in which contestants compete with firearms typical of those used in taming the Old West: single action revolvers, lever action rifles, and doubled barreled, side by side, pre 1899 pump, or lever action shotguns. The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, "Old West" style.
